Manufacturing and Management Consulting was established in 1995, with the purpose of providing consulting services specializing in productivity and quality improvements. The first major client was Sheffield Steel Corporation, in Sands Springs, Oklahoma. The original assignment was to provide suggestions on improving productivity and quality for a recently installed new rolling mill. M&M Consulting was assigned responsibility for the implementation of these recommendations. After this was completed, the training and morale-building was assigned and accomplished. This was followed by a rebalancing of the product mix and a mill that was losing money soon became profitable and set operational records. What began as an overview turned into a complete implementation of recommendations.
During the next 13 years, these same skills were applied to the DST Output facility in Kansas City, Missouri. Working with key vendors, state-of-the-art equipment was installed. In addition, management of the operations of new equipment often followed. At crucial peak times, we managed specific parts of operations that were problem areas at that time; in all cases, productivity and quality were enhanced to meet expectations. Training and morale-building again were keys to making each of these projects a success. In addition, many projects were identified as cost reduction opportunities. This required many process changes, instead of significant capital expenditures. Actual savings were over $1,000,000 per year.
M&M Consulting is in the business of improving quality and productivity. We carefully analyze processes and determine better methods that will result in significant savings. After implementation and training, the expected results are improved morale and better utilization of people resources, as well as increased profitability.
